It began as
yard work.

A putting game on an artificial green, with made-up rules for every putt. There were leaves on the green. Someone went for the leaf blower.

Then someone
blew it in.

After the game, somebody aimed the blower at a ball and blew it straight into the hole.

Five balls.
One spot.

Five golf balls went down. You had to stand in one spot and blow every one of them in.

The children
were armed.

Kids with toy bows and suction-cup arrows started shooting the balls off target. It became the best part of the game. The Snipes were born.

The Snipes got
too good.

With practice, Snipes who got low to the grass stopped missing. The standing rule was adopted.
